Proverbs 3:5-6

When I finally began seeing a good Christian counselor, Dave, who had been opposed to Christian counseling, went with me just to satisfy me because I was the one who was sick (or so he thought). But six weeks after we started counseling, he was the one on the couch!

All this happened without my arranging anything. God did it all. Even when I couldn't feel him, even when I couldn't sense him, even when I wasn't holding on to him anymore, God worked on my behalf. He didn't need me to do a thing!

I thought back to Dave's comeback and saw the similarities. That was not something we orchestrated either. In fact, we didn't know Dave was going to make it back until he was on the mound. If anything, I worked against Dave's comeback in an unspoken effort to protect us from disappointment. My pessimism was just another way of trying to protect myself and control my life, but it didn't work. When I faced far worse than my worst imaginings, something unexpected and wonderful happened. I realized that God was in control and God is good - even when bad things happen in our lives.

Even though I didn't know what I might have to go through next, I could rest and accept it. Because now I knew that when I let go, I would fall into the strong hands of God.
