Psalm 139:13-24 What a relief it is to be able to pour out your heart to God and know that he will receive your prayer-no matter how composed or irrational, giddy or angry, direct or confused-as the utterance of one of his best-loved children. In verses 23-24 the writer invites his Lord to "Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." When I can't feel his presence, when I don't know what he is trying to teach me, when the way before me is shrouded in fog and I can't see the path ahead, when my motives and actions come under question and truth is elusive, when my soul is desperate for God's direction and guidance-I can throw my soul down before God and utter this psalm, this heart cry of a soul longing for his Father's help.
