I Samuel 30 What was the difference between Saul and David? Why was one recalled from the throne and the other revered on the throne? Both were chosen by God, both anointed for service and both victorious in battle. Yet their lives and legacies had nothing in common. As I read through the pages of their lives, David was in continual communication with God. He inquired of Him, drew strength from Him, sang praises to Him, and honored God's laws. There was an obvious, living, ongoing relationship between David and God. Saul did not inquire of the Lord except to go to battle. His actions as King mainly involved exalting himself, protecting his reputation and going through religious motions instead of responding to God out of relationship with Him. David continually confessed his weakness, cried out for help, and didn't offer excuses for his failures. He knew that without God, he was nothing. Saul did not confess his shortcomings but tried to justify his actions. He only turned to God when he had to. And then he didn't fully obey God's instructions, caring more about the voices of men than the voice of God. One king exalted God on the throne of his heart. One king exalted himself on the throne of his heart - That was the ultimate difference.
