Exodus Chapter 16 "What is the greatest truth you've discovered in your cancer battle?" I asked Ellen, a successful businesswoman, wife, mother and cancer survivor. She went on to share with me a truth that I hear often from those whose lives have been forever changed by adversity. "God will give you just what you need to get through each day. When my thoughts wander into the future, when I begin to worry about tomorrow, or next week, or next year, His peace evaporates like water in the desert." God's provision is for today. Like manna, it can be fresh every morning. When I spend time with God in prayer and in His Word, I'm like the Israelites who gathered manna for the day. I receive enough of God's direction, peace, wisdom and love to see me through past supper - but not much beyond. No wonder Jesus tells us not to be "anxious about tomorrow." I don't have provision for it yet and besides, it may not come. Anyone who has faced a life-threatening illness lives with that reality. And if they're like Ellen, who has learned to live in daily dependence upon God, they are also living fuller, richer lives.
